I am an interdisciplinary artist, performer and curator with a contemporary social practice. I co-produce, curate and collaborate with people of all ages, creating contexts for transformation through conversations, experimentation, risk, creative play and creative action in public space. I also build linkages and collaborations with other artists, big ideas, organisations and resources. In working this way, I find the surfaces of our contemporary society become disrupted and beautifully remade to reflect deeper connections and broader ecologies.
Central to my practice is my work with communities. This work, grounded in CACD process and deep listening as a Hospice Volunteer, embraces projects with youth and people from diverse backgrounds and abilities, with people in non-arts and intergenerational contexts such as the Emergency Department at Royal Hobart Hospital and MONA 24Carrot Gardens project in primary schools, Hospice Tasmania and Mature Artist Dance Experience.
Each part of my practise is complementary- the research and discovery I make in my diverse experimental practice are an investment in my capacity to work in communities in ways that are innovative, contemporary and engaging. My work in communities feeds into my interdisciplinary practise by enriching my capacity to listen, negotiate, adapt with and understand a diverse range of perspectives, voices and processes. My background producing for large cultural institutions helps me navigate and network partnerships.
I founded Silver Lining Projects in 2012. Since then I have worked as Artist in Residence with the staff of Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department to re-imagine a more human experience, MONA 24 Carrot Gardens Project, designing and delivering consultation and art experiences for school children. I have been invited twice to be Artist Mentor for the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery Make Your Mark Youth program. I have also been contracted by Hobart City Council (YouthARC) to work with young people to realise high profile projects exploring critical issues.
My interdisciplinary practice and curatorial work has been engaged by organisations such as Contemporary Art Tasmania, Tasmanian Regional Arts, Mosaic Support Services, Moonah Arts Centre, the MONA Market, Terrapin and The Salamanca Arts Centre.
In 2018 I was invited to attend the ArtsHouse Melbourne TimePlaceSpace: Nomad experimental arts lab, and am currently a SITUATE Arts in Festivals artist and a core founding artist of ArTELIER, a capacity building project for artists committed to creating work with, by and for the most vulnerable communities in Tasmania, primarily children, young people and their families.
